Mom review: Shrunks Travel Beds ($79.99)
Planning to travel this holiday season? So are we. With little ones, which always adds an extra degree of difficulty. We’ll be driving for days across the country, which means lots of planning, treats and more Countdown Kids than anyone should ever have to endure.
One challenge we’ve faced before is where to put the kids in the motel. I used to think that having nowhere to hang out once they were in bed would be the hard part (I didn’t realize I’d be so exhausted that we’d go to bed early too).
What we’ve found is that there isn’t a good place for toddlers to sleep. We tried cribs (kids were furious to be separated, cribs aren’t always available), on the floor (kids got up and wandered the room all night) and in bed with us (too many kidney-kicks and fall-out-of-the-beds).
So we’ve been researching inflatable toddler beds, since those seem to solve the problems. The little ones have cozy nests to snuggle into and adults actually get some bed to themselves. They’re surprisingly hard to find, other than the odd character one, until we discovered The Shrunks. They’re a Canadian company (yay!) that makes a great inflatable toddler travel bed. We like that it’s light and portable for travel, comes with its own electric pump and even allows crib sheets to be tucked in snugly. And it’s not branded!
So off we go on our travels, having conquered at least one issue. We’ll let you know how it goes (if we survive 35 replays of Baby Beluga …).
Update: We made it! Travel beds were awesome and used them in the hotels and the grandparents’. Here’s a shot of the two beds in action:
