About Us

Who We Are

Fiddleheads is an awesome retail store for expecting parents and little ones. We bring together a curated selection of parenting solutions with expert knowledge and fanatical dedication to customer service.

Our Story

Fiddleheads was born when two sisteres-in-law went shopping for a baby gift.

Unsatisfied with what they found, they started imagining a different kind of store. One that had a carefully chosen selection of parenting products and baby gifts worth owning, using criteria like:

  • Healthy: everyone wants a healthy child but it can be hard to stay on top of what everything contains. You want to shop someplace where everything has already been checked to make sure it's as safe as possible. That includes things like skincare products with plant-based ingredients and plastics without toxins likes BPA or phthalates.
  • Long-lasting: kids go through stages so quickly, it's great to find products last through growing families and/or multiple developmental stages.
  • Stylish: where is it written that you have to give up your style when you become a parent? From hip diaper bags to modern cribs and high chairs, your lifestyle can still reflect who you are.
  • Local: why import a product when someone might be making it just down the road? This not only helps the environment but also helps support and grow our local community.

Instead of being overwhelmed (which car seat? which stroller? which bib?!), new parents could get expert advice and
buy less by getting the right product the first time around.

It would be like having a personal shopper who always cares that you get the right thing, knows everything about baby gear and doesn't judge your parenting decisions.

As proud residents, they opened their first location in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. A second location in Bedford, Nova Scotia followed two years later.

Community Impact and Support

Community involvement is one of the cornerstones of our business. We believe that conscious businesses focus on their purpose beyond profit. We therefore believe in supporting new parents by providing access to the support and information they need.

We do this by:

  • creating a friendly and supportive gathering place in our local store
  • providing educational workshops and classes
  • hosting a free breastfeeding support group
  • supporting other small businesses by sourcing and promoting products made locally
  • donating to local charities

Lisa, Co-Owner & Deal Sleuth
Lisa hates writing bio blurbs but loves useful product features.

Her thrill is finding great products that are actually affordable, because having a baby can be so expensive. With her love of both modern design and financial spreadsheets, Lisa helps our ship stay on course and new moms keep their sense of style, no matter the budget.

Lisa didn't even have children when the store first opened so her experience on both sides of the baby fence makes her a great resource for both nesting first time moms and those around them looking for the perfect baby present.

Nancy, Co-Owner & Baby Gear Addict
Nancy is here to help you figure out what you need, what you don't, while having fun along the way.

Our resident stroller and car seat fanatic/expert, she started researching baby products when she was 13 and hasn’t stopped since. She has a passion for strollers that verges on the obsessive and is currently in the midst of learning everything there is to know about car booster seats.

The veteran mom of two crazy little ones, Nancy is the savvy author of our blog, facebook page, tweets, newsletters and any other form of communication that lets her celebrate a love of all things baby. Careful when you come in the store - she might try to kiss your little one
