Reusable Straws for the Win!

We find ourselves talking a lot lately about straws.

Kids love using them, we love using them but if you start counting how many just get thrown in the garbage each time you have a smoothie, you start to feel bad.

So we've started carrying reusable straws.

It was hard to find ones we loved at first. One issue with reusable straws is that they can be a pain in the butt to clean. They go in the dishwasher but that doesn't always get all the smoothie out. We finally figured out that you really need a good straw brush as well. Straw makers have figured that out as well now too - Klean Kanteen just goes ahead and includes a straw brush with their reusable straws.

Onyx Stainless Steel Straws:

We started out with stainless steel. We were super excited to find these ones by Onyx. They come in different sizes (small and large) which is great for little ones, who can tip over their cups with larger straws.

Importantly they're also angled, which you really want from a straw.

They're $10.95 for four, which isn't bad, and they last forever.

Tip: Stainless steel products like this are great for camping!

Klean Kanteen Silicone Straws

This year Klean Kanteen (who we LOVE), came out with their own stainless steel straws. They improved on other by adding silicone tips, which is genius because one reason people sometimes don't love them is the cold feeling of the steel.

The tips are removeable for washing and the set comes with its own straw brush. The interiors are electropolished which apparently makes them easier to clean (which we appreciate).

They may be bit tall for using with toddlers but they're not that much more expensive ($11.99) than the onyx ones  and you get the food-safe silicone tops.

Boon SNUG Straws:

So we were totally on board with the metal straws but then BOON came out with these.

They're silicone, which means they're still health-safe compared to plastic, but so much softer on the mouth. And best of all for kids, they have a spillproof valve!

This means your little one can use a straw in a cup without  "unwanted volcanic activity."

They're made to go with Boon's SNUG line of lids of course but can also be cut to fit almost any cup (something you can't do with metal straws).

They come with six straws and a cleaning brush, which means  you get more straws for your money.

We still love our stainless steel straws but if you have a toddler running around the house, we gotta think these would be amazing.
