National Organic Week 2018!

Happy National Organic Week! We’re excited to be part of Canada’s annual celebration of all things organic!

It took us a while to learn the importance of buying organic, especially when it comes to skin care products but that's not uncommon. We’ve found that people tend to know about organic fruits and veggies but don’t really think about organic ingredients in the products they use.

For example, did you know that if you use skin care products with organic ingredients, you help prevent exposure to common synthetic chemicals, like phthalates, parabens, sulfates, fragrance, etc? Not surprisingly, this means less chance of your child experiencing allergic reactions, inflammations, irritations and skin conditions like eczema.

Which makes sense because we know that the chemicals in products can be absorbed into your bloodstream, and kids and little babies have thinner / more porous skin.

Actually, if you stop and think about it, it’s kind of crazy that chemicals like phthalates and parabens are in SO many products we use, even though they’ve been linked to things like endocrine disruption, allergies, asthma and cancer.

One of the worst offenders is sodium laureth sulfate (SLS), which can break down into 1,4-dioxane, a likely human carcinogen. And SLS is in practically every product that has suds (eg shampoo, liquid soap, bubble bath).  And according to the Environmental Working Group (EWG), as many as 57% of baby soaps may be contaminated with 1,4-dioxane.

How did we get here?? Why are we using these products on our kids?!

The good news is that chemicals like this have been found to be practically nonexistent in certified organic skin care products. Which is makes total sense since they're only made from natural plant-based ingredients.
